Die <em>Intimacy<\/em>-Arbeiten sind eine Hommage an beide &#8211; Sartres und Kureishis &#8211; Arbeiten. Die Aufnahmen waren zwischen Weihnachten und Silvester 1991 in Reading, England, gefilmt, wo ich damals lebte: Ein m\u00e4nnlicher Geliebter und ich, im sexuelle Aktivit\u00e4t engagiert, auf Stativ gefilmt, im Hintergrund der Unterhaltung h\u00f6rt man auf dem eingeschalteten TV ein Fernsehspiel der \u201eBBC 1\u201c: \u201cThe Lost Boys\u201d (Die Verlorenen Jungs), \u00fcber J.M. Barrie, den Autor von \u201ePeter Pan\u201c, au\u00dferdem TV-Werbung f\u00fcr den Film \u201eTruly Madly Deeply\u201c (Regie Anthony Minghella 1990) und andere Programme. Dieses aufgenommene Schlafzimmer-Material, ein paar Jahre nach meiner entgleisten Ehe gefilmt, war urspr\u00fcnglich nicht zur Verwendung in einem \u00f6ffentlichem Kunst-Kontext konzipiert, repr\u00e4sentiert aber gut die in die Sartre und Kureishis Texten umgesetzten Empfindungen: die Utopie der Ehe scheitert und wird durch eine vielf\u00e4ltige Praxis fl\u00fcchtiger sexueller Begegnungen ersetzt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 90%;\">Text Reihenfolge \u2013 Intimacy (Intimit\u00e4t) \u2013 Tanya Ury<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 90%;\">Diese Arbeit wurde entwickelt um \u00e4hnliche Themen in beiden Texten mit dem gleichen Titel, die in verschieden Epochen geschrieben wurden, zu betonen. Sartres Erz\u00e4hlstimmen sind die von Frauen; Kureishis Protagonist hingegen ist ein Mann. Die <em>Intimacy<\/em> Sequenz startet mit Zitaten aus Sartres gleichnamiger Kurzgeschichte \u201cIntimit\u00e9\u201d, aus \u201cThe Wall\u201d (Die Mauer) 1939, die vor Kureishis Novelle \u201cIntimacy\u201d (Intimit\u00e4t \u2013 Rastlose N\u00e4he), aus 1998, geschrieben wurde. Das Leitmotiv beider Erz\u00e4hlungen sind jene Gemeinheiten und Betr\u00fcgereien, die Partner einander demonstrieren, wenn eine Ehe zusammenbricht; explizit wird sexuelle Untreue beschrieben, die man um jeden Preis ausgef\u00fchrt, um sich von den Fesseln einer erdr\u00fcckend gewordenen Partnerschaft, los zu ringen. Hin und wieder folgen Ausdr\u00fccke halbherziger Reue; Appelle an die Erwartungen der Familien werden ge\u00e4u\u00dfert, und ignoriert. Die Reaktionen von Freunden, die als Mitt\u00e4ter beim Ehebruch beteiligt waren \u2013 oder auch aktiv den Versuch einer Wiedervereinigung unternommen haben, werden berichtet. Und letztendlich wird die Sehnsucht nach Intimit\u00e4t in Liebe und Freude &#8211; innerhalb oder au\u00dferhalb der Ehe &#8211; ausgedruckt.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div style=\"float: left; width: 48%;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 90%;\"><em>Intimacy<\/em>, the split screen video and touch screen pieces combine material filmed in 1991 with written text citations taken from \u201cIntimit\u00e9\u201d (Intimacy) 1939 from \u201cLe Mur\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Wall_%28book%29\">The Wall<\/a>) by Jean-Paul Sartre, Modern Voices, Hesperus Press ((UK) ISBN: 1-84391-400-x and Hanif Kureishi\u2019s novel of the same title \u201cIntimacy\u201d 1998, Faber and Faber ISBN 0-571-19437-0. The <em>Intimacy<\/em> works are a homage to Sartre and Kureishi\u2019s analogous works. The visual data was filmed between Xmas and New Year 1991, in Reading, where I was living at the time. A male lover and myself engage in sexual activity filmed by camera on a tripod, the action taking place against an arbitrary heard background of the BBC1 television play \u201cThe Lost Boys\u201d, about J.M. Barrie, the author of \u201cPeter Pan\u201d and TV advertisements for the film \u201cTruly Madly Deeply\u201d (directed by Anthony Minghella in 1990) and other programmes. This recorded bedroom material, filmed a couple of years after my own marital breakdown, was not originally intended for use within a public art context but I feel it represents well the sentiments personified in the Sartre and Kureishi texts &#8211; the utopian idea of marriage fails and is replaced by multifarious sexual practice in fleeting encounters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 90%;\">Text Sequence \u2013 Intimacy \u2013 Tanya Ury<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 90%;\">This piece has been developed to underscore similar themes in both texts of the same title, written in different eras. Sartre\u2019s voices are those of women; Kureishi\u2019s protagonist is a man. The <em>Intimacy<\/em> sequence commences with citations from Sartre\u2019s short story \u201cIntimit\u00e9\u201d from \u201cThe Wall\u201d 1939, written prior to Kureishi\u2019s novella \u201cIntimacy\u201d, 1998. The central leitmotif of both narratives is the cruelty and betrayal that partners demonstrate towards each other when a marriage breaks down; sexual unfaithfulness is explicitly described, carried out at all costs in the endeavour to struggle free from the bonds of a partnership that has become stifling. Expressions of unsure regret ensue at times; family expectations are appealed to and ignored; the reactions of friends complicit in the organisation of the scenes of infidelity or active in trying to bring about a reunion, are told. And ultimately the yearning for intimacy in love and happiness, within or outside of marriage is expressed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 48%;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 90%;\"><em>Intimacy<\/em> est une combinaison de vid\u00e9o \u00e0 \u00e9cran partag\u00e9 et de vid\u00e9o \u00e0 \u00e9cran tactile film\u00e9e en 1991. Les citations sont tir\u00e9es de la nouvelle \u00ab\u00a0Intimit\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb qui se trouve dans <em>Le mur<\/em> (1939) par Jean-Paul Sartre, et du roman du m\u00eame titre, <em>Intimacy<\/em> (1998) par Hanif Kureishi. <em>Intimacy<\/em> fonctionne comme un hommage aux \u0153uvres analogues de Sartre et de Kureishi. Je n\u2019avais pas l\u2019intention d\u2019utiliser ces sc\u00e8nes d\u2019amour dans un contexte artistique publique, mais je pense qu\u2019elles sont une belle repr\u00e9sentation des sentiments illustr\u00e9s dans les \u0153uvres de Sartre et de Kureishi \u2013 l\u2019id\u00e9e utopique du mariage s\u2019effondre pour laisser place \u00e0 diverses exp\u00e9riences et aventures sexuelles. Le tournage a eu lieu quelques ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9chec de mon propre mariage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 90%;\">S\u00e9quence textuelle \u2013 <em>Intimacy<\/em> \u2013 Tanya Ury<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 90%;\">J\u2019ai cr\u00e9\u00e9 cette \u0153uvre pour mettre en valeur les th\u00e8mes qu\u2019on trouve dans les textes qui ont un m\u00eame titre, mais qui appartiennent \u00e0 des \u00e9poques diff\u00e9rentes. Sartre utilise des voix de femmes et le protagoniste de Kureishi est un homme. <em>Intimacy<\/em> s\u2019ouvre sur des citations de la nouvelle \u00ab\u00a0Intimit\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb qui se trouve dans l\u2019\u0153uvre <em>Le Mur<\/em> (1939) de Jean-Paul Sartre, longtemps avant la novella \u00ab\u00a0Intimacy\u00a0\u00bb par Hanif Kureishi publi\u00e9e 1998. Dans ces \u0153uvres on exprime parfois du regret, mais c\u2019est un regret dont on doute. On ignore les attendus familiaux, on d\u00e9crit les r\u00e9actions des amis complices \u00e0 la planification des sc\u00e8nes d\u2019infid\u00e9lit\u00e9, ainsi que celles des amis qui essayent de recoller les morceaux du mariage.
